A Coaching Model Created by Barclay Schraff
(Health and Wellness Coaching, UNITED STATES)
Elemental Wellness offers health and wellness coaching for individuals who want to be their best selves. My clients are busy people who have let their health and wellness take a backseat to career, family, or both. I support them in finding balance while establishing a healthy lifestyle.
Each client is unique and the coaching process is always organic, yet my coaching relationships all share the same fundamental elements. The following model gives a sense of what you will experience as a client of Elemental Wellness.
Entering a Partnership
The relationship between coach and client is an equal partnership with the shared purpose of improving the client’s quality of life. We come together, each with our own expertise: you know our topic – yourself – better than anyone, and I bring the skills and tools of coaching. Our sessions provide a safe and confidential space for you to explore your issues, goals, and dreams.
Listening
As a coach I come to each session with open ears. It is common for the client to do 80% of the talking. As your coach, I am listening to what is said, what is not spoken, and what emotions lie beneath your words. This is the time to speak your mind. More importantly it is your time to be heard.
Elevating Awareness
Personal effectiveness begins with self‐awareness. Being aware of your strengths, challenges, core values, behavioral patterns, and emotions allows you to operate from a strong and centered place. It shows you that you have choices about your actions, attitudes, and lifestyle choices. Our conversations, supplemented by occasional exercises, help you to build this awareness. Through awareness you become empowered and motivated.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness means operating in the present moment with full awareness and attention. Multi‐tasking – so valued in our society today – is at odds with mindfulness. Being mindful is, in fact, a skill that can be developed through coaching and personal exploration. You can learn to let go of rehashing the past and rehearsing for the future, because in order to be your best self, you must be willing to be here now.
Exploring Impediments
What is standing in your way? What has to change before you can move forward toward your goals? How can your situation be better? As your coach, I will ask you many powerful questions like this. You are the expert who has the answers.
New Perspectives
Among the most rewarding things for client and coach are the “aha moments.” Otherwise known as a “light bulb moment, ” it is when our work together has brought about a shift in your perspective. You see a situation, a long-held belief, or a habit in a new and illuminating way. You now know that you have a choice. You can make a change for the better, and it no longer feels like you “should” do it. Instead you are motivated to do it.
Taking Action
Bolstered by increased self-awareness, blossoming mindfulness and fresh perspectives, you are ready to take action. Perhaps you’ve been at this cross roads before, but now you have me, your coach, to back you up. Together we make a plan for change that is doable and sustainable.
Accountability
Being your best self is a life-long process. For those of us interested in growth, we must know that improvements are incremental and ongoing. Each step in the process is important. As your coach, I will encourage your progress and hold you accountable for each step. Together we will celebrate the milestones along your path.
Lightness & Growth
Whatever your individual goals may be, the outcomes of coaching are lightness and growth. We work together on shedding habits and beliefs that are no longer serving you. We simplify priorities and let go of stressors so that you can move nimbly into action. From there you grow into that person you want to be – your best self.
