A Coaching Model Created by Marie Camille Toulenonde
(Career Transition & Expat Coach, THAILAND)
Who is it for?
TALENT is a coaching model particularly targeting at coachees in a career transition situation, where the coachee wants to work on who they are, what they want and need for their future career steps.
Why Talent?
Our talents should be the drivers of our career orientations. The clue of having a successful and fulfilling job depends on: have I identified my talents, and do I leverage on them in my job?
I have a strong belief that anyone can be successful and excel somewhere when leveraging on his/her talents. The real difficulty is to find what are my talents and in which job can I leverage the most on them.
One of the works to be done during the career transition coaching is to help the coachee find his talents so that we can start looking at career and job options where he/she can deliver and perform what he/she is best at.
What is it about?
Talent model is divided into 6 steps, each of them plays an integral part in achieving the main outcome: operate a successful career transition leveraging on one’s talents.
You can’t hit a target you cannot see, and you cannot see a target you do not have, Zig Ziglar
In the first phase, we look at your desired goal, your TARGET. What do you want to achieve in this transforming coaching session? This phase is one of the most important ones. If you do not know where you want to go, you cannot go anywhere. This phase can take more time than the other phases. There, you will try to define a realistic and reachable target.
In your own life it’s important to know how spectacular you are, Steve Maraboli
Then, you will try to deeply look into yourself, to ANALYZE your past and present to identify what are your talents. This analysis phase drives you to remote periods of your life, trying to look at where you took pleasure doing things (most of the time, when there is pleasure there is talent), and where you felt recognized positively for achieving something. We can use different coaching tools to help you dig into your past experiences. Among them, the Career retrospective tool. While analysing, you might feel both uncomfortable and proud of what you have/haven’t achieved. This analysis work really helps you identify by putting words, and take ownership of your talents. You are revealing to yourself your talents by becoming more aware of who you are. A real feeling of self-confidence and happiness can come out from this phase.
I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become Carl Jung
After analyzing it is time to LIGHT UP new perspectives. What are you going to do with your talents?
In this phase, we are calling your creativity to put into light and explore different options. At first, it is important to let go of your thoughts, without any constraint, in order to point out your deep desires, envies, dreams. Emotions are important to explore during this light-up phase. They say so much about us. They help us identify where do we lie to ourselves or when do we cheat with ourselves. Emotions do not lie to us, neither cheat with us. Asking powerful questions helps you to be creative and think through possibilities you had not imagined before. Creativity leads to possibility. After the first draft of options, we try to precise them more and more, to explore multiple alternative paths to reach the goal, and to vision the success of your scenario.
You can’t let life happen to you, you have to make life happen, Idowu Koyenikan
Once you are clear with the option you want to deploy, you are asked to EMPOWER yourself, to take ownership of this transforming path. Empowerment comes with taking actions, put yourself in movement, live the engagement state, experiment yourself, celebrate your achievements.
This empowerment phase allows you to confront your project to reality, and sometimes to any kind of blockages affecting the chance to achieve your target. We are looking at ways to address them, allowing you to move forward. The coach is there to help you manage your progress and your accountability.
All alone we go faster, together we go further, African proverb
Here, we explore who the coach already knows or can have access to, that would help you make your target reality. We are working on your NETWORK and how you can leverage it.
What the mind can conceive and believe, and the heart desire, you can achieve, Norman Vincent Peale
The accomplishment of your target will need you to TRUST YOURSELF. Self-doubt, insecurity, fear of failing, fear of being judged, … all this keeps you away from meeting your “true-yourself”, and from moving forward. Trusting yourself is so essential to create the life and the career you want to live, to turn your aspirations into your reality. The question of trusting yourself appears in watermark all along with the coaching. It is effectively needed at all stages of the coaching, allowing you to:
